I tried your link, Bruce, and was taken to 'Bruce's Snaps' in a fraction of a second--have never known a link to work so fast. J ust to check that it wasn't only taking me to the first page, I clicked on your Paris gallery, and that also opened up like greased lightning. Semms Brian has found a winner here.

Hi Charles and all members. Please note to NOT create such links - per my destructions, members MUST insert full links that start with http:// followed by www as there is a very good reason why to not use the "link" setting. Members have been given extensive rights for using this forum and this is the only specific request I have made. There are very good reasons why I do not want that facility to be used. As a simple explanation, DPReview has never allowed such reduced links - such as created for long links by tinyURL. The reason why is simple. Because the forum cannot (well, at least not yet) be made totally secure and only for members, anyone could Register, post a short message and use such a link to direct unsuspecting members to a website that would immediately infect their computer - such as porno websites, commercial websites and so forth. The full link, which I can monitor, would reveal such ulterior purposes but shortened (hidden) links would not, so I will have to say if they appear, I will leave the message but remove such shortened links. For what should be obvious reasons - I will NOT click on any such link myself to check if OK - I'm not that daft! E-mails and login details, like usernames, passwords (especially if not secure) can be compromised, so always possible for a hacker to use such information to lodge harmful links into the forum. I regularly get e-mails purporting to come from members (two in particular) because they failed to change their passwords, even after I have mailed them to advise to do that. Note that the speed of getting to the website using the shortened link is not why it was quick - under the hidden link is the real link, so it was that which resulted in the speedy transfer. The full link would have produced exactly the same speed for the transfer. Hope that clarifies. As stated, members have been given extensive facilities - please in respect of that ensure all links are shown in full as requested. Thanks. A reason why I did not create this Forum before? Well, I did, but at that time (about 8 years ago) two members decided they knew best and started creating new topics, despite being told not to - I had created three topics but within a couple of days of trialing the forum via this host, there were a total of 12 topics - every message was being given its own topic. On that basis, the forum would have been a total mess within a week. That is why I created this forum with the one topic as a new forum. Hope that clarifies. Probably confirming the old adage about "give them an inch ..... "

Thanks for hard copy NL, Brian--arrived today. Re: your suggestion about using conventional process for the occasional large print, Harman Technology (successor to the film/paper/chemicals part of Ilford--makes all the familiar Ilford products) has organised a facility whereby those without darkrooms can contact those who still have them and are willing to allow others to use them. Details available at www.localdarkroom.com There are community darkrooms in some places, which may or may not be listed on this site. For those who live in the area, there is one in Totnes, Devon. I do not have the physical or web address (if there is one), but the location is down a side streeet at the top of town, just beyond the Butterwalk.

There are currently 33 darkrooms listed in the UK and relatively well spread out. Has anyone here used any of them?
Mine in Berlin is listed for tuition but, since Ilford launched the site, I have only had one person contact me and that was a tourist with a film jammed in the camera. Quick to sort out but I will not be able to retire on it!

I have not used any of them, having no need. However, I suppose that the Totnes facility must be well enough used, because it is part of an art gallery, and if little use were made, no doubt the owners would reallocate the space to some other purpose.

I had two days touring to places fairly nearby but just a little too far for a day trip. Local friend (another well named chappie as also Brian) and I got two single rooms with breakfast - nice motel sort of place just South of Jaen - for bargain €20 a night. Just one night but meant could spend two days visiting some towns and villages. Anyway - thought this shot would be of interest (will post more on the pbase gallery sometime soon)- this being a shot taken from underneath - a covered area in a square in Linares - beautiful town with amazing features - await the pbase effort. This one, as said looking up, was of the water staining on the "roofing" of plywood. I have a number of shots but this I thought rather amazing. Mother Nature can be a far better artist than mere humans.

A local friend and I had a one-night stay in a hotel near Jaen - about a 2-hour drive away. Had a good deal with two singles, including breakfast, for only €20 each and had a very nice evening meal, 3-course for €8.50 each and a really nice bottle of wine for just a tenner - labelled as being specially bottled for the hotel. Not far but meant could have more time exploring the area without the drive home on a one-day visit. I have now posted some 76 images from the trip - varying topics but should be worth your effort to view. All basic processing (using AUTO in Sigma Photo Pro RAW files programme - never use auto normally) so as they were taken. Will, of course, be processing any separately for any I want to print. Especially interesting were the old photos of Linares printed on to tiles and incorporated into beautiful tiled benches - about 150+ we reckoned in a lovely (about ¾ mile long) walkway/avenue. Amazing project for a city to do. www.pbase.com/zps/visit_to_jaen_linares_and_nearby_villages__april_2014

Talking about cameras in smartphones - you have seen before one of Charles with ale in hand - here's a link to one from the same phone (equivalent to Samsung Galaxy Note 2) that gives a pretty good account of a static detailed subject - obviously top corners not as good due difference in distance as lens is working at around f2.2-ish but check out the sharpness in the centre and lower areas of this tapestry. The image was about 24"x20" at 72ppi and is as came from the camera - indoor lighting so as-was. www.everbuying.com/product435633.html

Ale only in hand? That's not the place ale should be.
